The Coalition Reveals More About Gears of War: E-Day Ahead of Its October Launch
During today’s Gears of War: E-Day presentation, we got a much deeper look at what The Coalition has been working on for the next major chapter in the franchise. The studio showcased more of the campaign, gameplay, combat, characters, and the world surrounding Emergence Day – the devastating moment when the Locust Horde first emerged and changed humanity forever.

During the presentation, Studio Creative Director Matt Searcy, Studio Brand Director Nicole Fawcette, Studio Art Director Aryan Hanbeck, and Studio Technical Director Kate Rayner explained why the team chose to return to the origins of the series rather than continue the story after the most recent games. Their goal has been to create an origin story that respects everything fans love about Gears of War while building something entirely new from the ground up.

What we saw looked incredibly impressive. The dark atmosphere, highly detailed environments, and intense combat sequences captured the classic Gears of War feeling, while also demonstrating a significant technical leap forward for the series. The Coalition emphasized how much effort has gone into rebuilding the characters and the world in a way that feels both familiar and fresh.
While the main focus of the presentation was on the campaign and storytelling, the team briefly touched on multiplayer, confirming that it will be part of the experience, with more details to be shared at a later date.
For longtime fans of the franchise, Gears of War: E-Day feels like an exciting return to the series’ roots. Experiencing the events that started it all, while seeing the franchise reimagined for a new generation of players, makes this one of the most anticipated Xbox releases of the year.
Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud gaming, and will be available day one with Game Pass Ultimate. The game also supports Xbox Play Anywhere and will be released on Steam. Pre-orders are now live, with early access to the open beta beginning on August 6.
Based on what we saw today, the future of the Gears of War franchise looks very promising, and we are looking forward to learning more in the months ahead—especially when it comes to the multiplayer experience.
