Among the major role-playing game series like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, and others, we shouldn’t forget that there’s a wealth of other series that are incredibly good! When I got my PlayStation 1, I did so because the seventh installment of one of the series mentioned above was going to be released for Sony’s new platform. While I waited, a ton of fun games appeared, but two of them I remember vividly, and they still hold a special place in my RPG heart today; the Suikoden series was unlike anything I had played before. It didn’t focus solely on graphics — instead, it was the story, the music, and above all, the characters that Konami emphasized. Recruiting all 108 characters was something both huge and new at the time.

Since then, a lot has happened. But the last Suikoden game in the series was part 5 for PlayStation 2 in 2006, and after that, things went silent. Tragically, Suikoden’s creator Yoshitaka Murayama passed away last year, but before his death, he released his own project. Now, Konami is launching an HD remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2. The questions I ask myself are: Do we really need an HD remaster, and what’s new enough? Watch the video review here!
