Samsung Expands 9100 PRO Series with 8TB SSD

Samsung is launching the 9100 PRO 8TB – the latest addition to the company’s consumer SSD lineup. Featuring a PCIe 5.0 interface, the 9100 PRO delivers high performance, smooth multitasking, and broad compatibility with laptops, gaming PCs, and consoles. The new variant, with up to 8TB capacity, provides both larger storage and faster performance for today’s data-heavy workflows and next-generation gaming.

Expansion of the SSD 9100 PRO Series with Two New 8TB Models

The two new 8TB models in the high-performance SSD 9100 PRO series – the 9100 PRO 8TB and the 9100 PRO 8TB with heatsink – are designed to offer improved thermal management while maintaining peak performance. These are the largest PCIe SSD models Samsung has released to date, giving gamers, creators, and professionals high-capacity options with top speeds and reliability.

The 8TB variants deliver sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s. Built for heavy workloads, they also feature high random read and write performance – up to 2,200K IOPS and 2,600K IOPS.

Based on the PCIe 5.0 interface, both models are designed for low latency, shorter load times, and a smoother gaming experience. The heatsink version adds an extra layer of thermal control for consistent performance during extended use.

Enhanced Performance and Increased Capacity

  • The new 8TB option provides expanded storage for large game libraries. With 8TB of SSD space, users can install around 80 popular PC titles, based on an average size of 90.6 GB – calculated from the 11 most popular titles on Steam’s Best of 2024: New Releases list.
  • Equipped with PCIe 5.0, delivering double the speed of the previous PCIe 4.0 generation.
  • Achieves sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s – up to 99 percent faster than the predecessor, the 990 PRO. 9100 PRO 4TB has a sequential read speed of 14,800 MB/s, compared to the 990 PRO 4TB’s 7,450 MB/s.
  • Improved random read and write performance, reaching up to 2,200K IOPS and 2,600K IOPS.
  • Energy efficiency improved by 49 percent compared to the previous model, thanks to advanced thermal management. 9100 PRO 2TB delivers sequential read/write efficiency of 1,822 and 1,703 MB/s per watt, while the 990 PRO 4TB delivers 1,221 and 1,255 MB/s per watt.

Improved Heat Protection, Larger Capacity, and Broad Compatibility

  • The 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models come with an 8.8 mm heatsink for better temperature control and overheating protection. They also meet the PCI-SIG® D8 standard.
  • The 8TB PCIe 5.0 model, with an 11.25 mm heatsink, is designed to be compatible with the PlayStation® 5 series. “PlayStation” and “PS5” are registered trademarks or trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.
  • The 9100 PRO is compatible with a wide range of devices – from laptops and desktops to gaming consoles – making it an excellent choice for seamless upgrades in both performance and capacity.
