“Cave Crave” developer calls for help!

Meta Quest / PSVR 2 “Cave Crave” developer calls for help, as the optional horror mode turns out “too scary for most testers”
“It’s too real”
3R Games, the studio behind the bestselling ”Thief Simulator VR: Greenview Street” and upcoming physics sandbox builder “Besiege VR” calls for help with their soon-to-be-released title: spelunking simulator “Cave Crave”. Apparently, the optional player-requested mode of running-from-monsters-in-tight-tunnels thing is a bit too much for some testers.
“When we showed the first footage of the game, we were flooded with ADD MONSTERS requests” – says Piotr Surmacz, game director and 3R Games CEO – ”I never wanted the game to be mostly horror, so we decided monster mode would be completely optional and not related to the main game. Even so, some of our testers keep saying things like, ‘I can test anything, but not horror mode.’ ”

It’s not just the cramped spaces making it hard to escape; the monsters move super realistically too. The developer used algorithmic space recognition, so that the monsters’ legs react naturally to the uneven cave walls. That’s enough to trick your brain into thinking these creatures are seriously dangerous!
As a reminder, “Cave Crave” offers the most realistic VR experience of cave exploration, complete with crawling, climbing, squeezing through tight corridors and using tools to clear a path.
