Gamescom 2025: More Than Just Games

Gamescom has always been about games first and foremost, but this year made one thing clear: the boundaries between gaming and traditional media are becoming increasingly blurred. Even giants from the film and TV industry are eager to claim their share of the gaming spotlight. Netflix, for example, had a major presence on the show floor, showcasing the upcoming Fallout series during Opening Night Live.
For many gamers, though, including myself, the interest in series or movies tied to games remains limited. At the end of the day, given the choice, I’d rather spend my time playing the games themselves than watching their adaptations.
Another noticeable change this year was the atmosphere among the press. Compared to previous years, there were fewer large video cameras and fewer members of traditional press on site. Both developers and we at Druidz.se took note of this. Why that was the case remains open for speculation.

This year also brought a stronger presence of live music at Gamescom. Fans could enjoy concerts tied to gaming culture, including performances from The Witcher and Wargaming’s special Sabaton concert. Wargaming celebrated their 15th anniversary in grand style, announcing World of Tanks 2.0 along with a brand-new title called Heat. Best described as Call of Duty with tanks, Heat turned out to be unexpectedly fun and engaging.
As part of their anniversary celebrations, Wargaming also invited press and partners to a VIP evening filled with food, drinks, and Sabaton live from the front row – a memorable highlight for many attendees.

Despite these diversions, Druidz.se kept busy on the show floor. We managed to record around 11 interviews and capture gameplay footage from at least three different titles, all of which will be published throughout the upcoming week, starting Sunday.
